DOOMSDAY Episode 22 Season 8

Written by Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, the two remaining Executive Producers – so what you see on screen – they had complete control over it. And directed by James Marshall again. The same team that gave us ETERNAL [subtitled RETCON] this season.

Only not the movie – but a special television version.
You are a producer of a hit tv show called Smallville. You’ve been on the air for 8 years. For your 9th season you want to align the show with the greater Superman mythos.

There are many things you could change. Too numerous to count. The following may not seem to be the big issues, but play along, okay? Here are five selections that need aligning to the general populous’ knowledge of the Superman story.

Yep, that’s right. Clark Kent’s childhood best friend was never . . . oh, sorry. Should have read the card in the envelope first.   Jimmy Olsen was always ten years younger than Clark Kent!!! [looks around] Really???

Don’t be sad. Your consolation prize is . . . a puke bucket so you can enjoy the next season of Chloeville . . . er, Smallville.   AND last but not least, rabid theorist fans will come to your home and put a flaming bag of poo on your doorstep each and every night of the summer hiatus.

Yea. Okay. Where to begin? At the beginning? [What if I’m not sure were the beginning is?]

Why do I remember the lyrics to an obscure one season television show from the 60’s? I don’t think I even watched the show, but I remember the theme song. Weird.

“It's about time,
It's about space,
About two men in the strangest place.
It's about time,
It's about flight,
Travelin' faster than the speed of light.”

It could be pertinent to tonight’s episode. But then again . . . [flails arms] what is?

There was a ‘previously on.’ We see the Legion of Superheroes, the Justice League, ‘Watchtower’, Clark’s intro to Tess, Jimmy telling Chloe they would always be there for each other – forever (didn’t happen within the course of the episode or the Arc of Suck), Doomsday bitchslapping Jimmy in the barn, Chloe tasering her still recovering husband from hurting Davis, the marriage break up, Davis stabbing himself with no wound, Chloe keeping Davis in her basement so he won’t kill Clark, more Chloe and Davis escapades, Clark trying to find a way to save her, mutilated Lex blowing up, Ollie’s guilt, Ollie hiring Jimmy after he quit the DP, dual identities for Clark, RBB telling Lois she’s the one to tell his story when he’s ready, Clark destroying the Legion ring because controlling time is too dangerous, Clark doing his super thing, Tess telling Davis he has to fulfill his destiny so Clark will, Tess telling Clark it’s too early for his destiny, Doomy in the barn, Clark blowing away the door to the jeweler’s hide out, Ollie imitating the RBB, the orb, Clark wanting to know why Davis Bloome has to die (notice it wasn’t the monster) and Tess with the orb saying civilization will die if Davis doesn’t. Did you get all that? Sam Witwer had the intro honors – and apparently the closing honors, also, but more about that later.

So Rokk from the 31st century returns – flying!!!—no less. Yea, Clark Kent at this age doesn’t fly on the show. Um, yea, real mythosy. Meets Clark on the roof of the Daily Planet. That’s cool. He warns him that the future has changed because Chloe Sullivan has been allowed to live. Remember the Legion of Superheroes is all about time travel (and flight) – they reside in the future and apparently – there’s no place like home – but home isn’t home any more because Clark saved Chloe twice.   In other words, CHLOE SULLIVAN IS MEANT TO DIE OR NEVER EXIST!!! Clark never kills and he always tries to save – so him stating he wouldn’t change anything isn’t cringe worthy. That’s just Clark. That’s mythos.

So Brainiac doesn’t exist in the future and apparently Clark doesn’t either. Okaaaay. That could be a problem, especially for an organization evolved from Superheroes of the past. So Rokk gives him another Legion ring to use against Doomsday. The Legion is standing by to deal with the boney monster on his arrival in the 31st century.   Sounds like a solution. But Clark thinks it may be his destiny to die. Last words to Clark, “Use the ring.” Guess what. He doesn’t. Say goodbye to Rokk everybody. [waving] It’s his only scene. No, I’m not kidding.

Chloe and Davis lying on the hood of a car. Must have been something they stole. It wasn’t the same one they had to make their getaway. Apparently they are in Edge City – which is over the border?   From what I can calculate Edge City is ten miles from the geothermal plant. Didn’t Clark say he could hear a dog barking ten miles away? So anyway, they’re discussing Demeter, Persephone (Queen of the Underworld, see ISIS or Cora) and Hades. Yea. More Greek mythology. Don’t worry. It doesn’t mean a damn thing. Chloe is Lana 2K (upgraded from 2.0). She will never have to pay or learn from her consequences.

Tess in the mansion with a minion. They are tracking Chloe and Davis but her safe has been broken out of (yea, out, not in). Tess goes ballistic because the orb is missing.   She sends minion guy off to get it.

Full moon over the DP. Clark is looking at the Legion ring. He places it in a box in his desk drawer. With barely restrained emotion he types out a goodbye letter to the city of Metropolis. Lois interrupts him wondering what he’s doing about Chloe being on the run with Davis. She’s lost sleep and is at her wits end. She desperately wants to find her cousin. Clark tells her he wants to find Chloe, too. He sees the words ‘If I die, goodbye.’ on his screen.   Lois calms down and approaches him wondering what he’s working on. He shuts down the document. He says no. “Great! Another ricochet off of the impenetrable force field.” Things are strained. Lois tells him to forget it while she tries to get another cup of coffee.   Clark looks at her and we see Lois trying to regain her composure. Her phone rings and Clark is no longer in his chair.   He’s gone.

He’s calling her from the phone booth as the RBB. He tells her he’s been searching for Chloe as he watches her through the bullpen window. He tells her he will find her cousin. Lois is curious how he knew she was missing. “I’ve been keeping an eye on you.” He says it with endearment. Lois whispers wow.   She’s flattered and a bit smitten that he is watching over her. She rambles. She stops. Clark feels her emotion at her admission of nervousness again. “You just make me feel so . . .” He stares intently at her as if trying to memorize her. She doesn’t know how she can ever repay him for trying to find Chloe. He tells her she could do him a favor by printing his letter. When she inquires about it – we see his gust rumples her hair and he has placed a paper on her monitor. She’s thrilled because she realizes he’s been there with her. She quickly opens the letter. Clark inside the phone booth tells her she wasn’t supposed to do that. He asks her if he can count on her to publish the letter if anything happens to him. She’s reading the letter. “Goodbye?” She asks what he means by that. Clark can’t even look at her. “Sometimes we can’t outrun our destiny.” This is an intimate conversation. “But I thought you were invincible.” Clark stares out the phone booth window. “So did I.”

Lois realizes this is serious. “I want to meet you. I HAVE to see your face. I have to see you. I want you to show me what you can’t show anyone else. You can trust me, please.”   Clark is watching her now. He tells her that’s not a good idea. “Look you can come through this. You have to. And when you do . . .” She looks a little tearful. “How do you feel about phone booths?” hehehe Lois has him nailed and encouraged in all of ten seconds. Clark looks at the phone booth he’s in. She tells him about the phone booth at 4th and Main. “Let’s say midnight? I’ll be there.” Clark gulps. “I hope you’ll be there, too.” She thanks him. She knows if anyone can save Chloe, it’s him. Lois shows him trust and faith and hope.    Say goodbye to Clark and Lois everyone – yes, it’s their last scene together this episode. That’s right, four months until maybe the next one. No, I am not kidding. Yes, I know it’s only 11.5 minutes into the episode. Hey, back off. I didn’t write it!

So it’s daylight at the Kent Farm. Clark and Lois keep some weird ass hours if they’re going to be meeting at midnight. Clark wearing the red jacket has called Dinah AKA Black Canary and Bart AKA Impulse (but everyone knows he’s the Flash).   He’s staring out the barn window. He has less than 24 hours to live y’know. Dinah’s wig looks a lot better this time. Bart zips in. He’s got the schematics of the geothermal facility owned by Luthorcorp. They are digging a one mile hole in the ground. Clark figures if Rokk said nothing on the face of the Earth can destroy the beast then they could put him under it. Quasi good thinking, I guess. He also said to ‘use the ring,’ but apparently Clark is having selective memory.   Dinah will detonate the charges in the shaft, but she’s concerned about burying the creature alive. Clark says only partly. He brings out the black kryptonite and Bart thinks it’s a toy. They are interrupted by Oliver who wonders what would happen if the meteor rock doesn’t work. Everyone is really low key and subdued, except for Bart who is trying to cut the tension. Ollie talks about killing the serial killer before he ‘beasts’ out. “You’ve never wanted to admit it but there is a darker side to humanity.” Clark confronts him telling him ‘he knows there is.’ “I’m looking at it, right now.” Ollie tells him not every life is worth saving and that they have to take care of Davis. Clark challenges him by asking if he means murder. Bart tries to get them to back down. Dinah asks Ollie what Clark is talking about. Again a very intimate conversation.

“Oliver crossed the line. He killed Lex Luthor,” says Clark staring at Ollie. “You’re not one of us anymore.” It’s a stare off as Ollie slowly turns and leaves. Bart and Dinah stand with Clark.

The DP at night again. We see the man we’ve known as Jimmy Olsen for three years has gained illegal entry to Tess’s office. He has a headset in his ear. He’s talking to Ollie. They’re trying to find Chloe’s location. He sits in Tess’s chair and scoots it towards the desk. We hear an OUCH! And then Jimmy cries out in pain. Guess who is under the desk – yep, Lois. She chastises him for stepping on her hand. “Next time don’t have your hand on the floor under the desk in an office that you’re not supposed to be in.” Aaron and Erica are terrific in these scenes together. “I’m sorry, but did I just get a lecture from Jimmy Olsen?” She wonders who he has been talking to and informs him she’s looking for Chloe and Davis. The Talon apartment is being staked out by Tess and Jimmy is about to decrypt Tess’s computer. Tess has been tracking Chloe and her pet monster. They are on the outskirts of Edge City. He tells Lois not to take her eyes off of them while he leaves.   Say goodbye to Jimmy and Lois everyone. [waves] It will be their last scene together ever. Yes, I’m not kidding.

Curious Lois finds a video of Regan during torture. Ari Cohen!!! He tells Tess that Lex has already tried to break down the technology of the orb. Tess admits the orb was not from Earth and that it calls to her. (Why she would confess this to a guy she is torturing . . . who knows?) “There is life inside it that can’t be released until the Traveler kills the Beast.” Regan tells her what she is unleashing could mean the end of the world.

So while Lois is upstairs getting the skinny on Tess’s endeavors. Clark is in the bullpen getting an audio message from Dinah. She uploads him the info that Jimmy got for Oliver that Lois is supposedly watching also. (So Lois has been allowed the privilege of knowing the ‘weird’ stuff.) Clark listens and hears Chloe yelling for Davis while someone else yells her name. He pulls at his tie and tears out as the RBB. He’s in Edge City in seconds and finds their car with the glass all broken out. Dinah and Bart are there. “What’s going on?” Dinah tells him they couldn’t risk losing him. So Ollie shoots him with a kryptonite dart in the middle of the back. Clark is down and has a cut on his cheek. He’s bleeding. They’re going to do what needs to be done. They walk away. “Don’t do this.”

Exciting, huh?

Lois exits the elevator on the basement level. Tess is waiting on the stairs for her. She misses the maid outfit. We’re drawing parallels to the first episode of the season, ODYSSEY. Yea, more Greek mythology. Lois tells her she’s done cleaning up after her and that she’ll do anything to find Chloe. Even get fired. Tess thinks she has seen the orb. Why? Don’t know. “Lois, where is the orb?” Lois asks her what orb. “The alien technology from my vault.” Erica is priceless with the delivery of this next line. “Oh, that orb.” She grabs her keys from her desk and Tess kicks her. Tess is determined to cat fight. They wallow on the desk and it’s the best fight of the episode. Clark’s desk drawer gets opened, naturally. Lois grabs the box and smacks Tess unconscious to the floor. The ring pops out in front of her and she picks it up as it slowly begins to slide down a finger. The ring is activated and she disappears in a purple light. Everyone say goodbye to Lois. [wave] You won’t see her again for another four months, maybe. Yes, it is only 20 minutes into the episode. No, I’m not kidding.

Luthorcorp geothermal facility. Chloe awakens on the floor. She sees black kryptonite in a backpack. The JLA are standing around an unconscious Davis. She realizes that Clark is not there because Ollie wants to kill Davis. Dinah explains the plan – separate the monster from Davis. They are concerned about the monster. Davis couldn’t control his monster. Chloe with an ego the size of Jupiter tells them that she can. Davis tells her it’s not working anymore. “You’re not working.” Chloe tells him to focus on her and that will work this out together as they always have. Davis begins to transform. Ollie grabs Chloe as Dinah and Bart grab Davis. He tosses them aside. Ollie goes to shoot him with an arrow when Chloe steps in with the black kryptonite. The monster separates from Davis and then growls at him. Great effect.

A car drives up and it’s Jimmy. He hears Clark struggling with the kryptonite dart in his back. He pulls it out and realizes what it’s done to Clark. The wound on Clark’s face heals immediately. JIMMY KNOWS! “It’s like you’re some kind of super . . . guy.” Clark comes clean. “Jimmy, I am the Red Blue Blur. You were right about me and about Davis. You are the only person who put it all together. I’m sorry that I lied to you.” Clark asks for Jimmy’s help. “Do you still have that wedding gift?” Okay, what wedding gift? This has never been mentioned before even if Clark was the best man at the wedding. “The one for Chloe that you said you never gave to her.”   He wants Jimmy to give it to her now. “No matter what happens to me.” Jimmy is to keep Davis and Chloe safe. “Davis?” Clark turns from leaving. “Jimmy, do you trust me?” You got to love Aaron in this scene. “Always, CK.” It’s a iconic moment. Clark knows he can trust Jimmy. He superspeeds off. In wide eyed awe, Jimmy says, “That is so . . . cool.” Everyone hug Jimmy. He’s going to need it later. So will you.

Geothermal Plant. Clark finds the JLA, Chloe and Davis all unconscious. WEIRD! Shouldn’t all be dead?   It’s not like Doomsday has a conscience or anything. Ollie recovers, but Clark runs to Chloe first. Reminds me of SPELL when all the girls were in the cave and he ran to Lana while Chloe and Lois had to fend for themselves. It’s even in the commentary. Clark asks what happened, and Chloe answers, “Exactly what you wanted, Clark. I split him. I split him from the Beast.” Clark wants to know where the monster went. Ollie shakes his head in answer. Clark listens and hears the screams. “I’ll get him back here.” He tells Dinah to detonate the explosives. Ollie tells him if he gets the beast in the tunnel they will take care of the rest. “Can I trust you?” Ollie nods and says, “Yes.”

Clark takes off for downtown Metropolis and stops near the phone booth where he was to meet up with Lois. He stares at it. It’s empty. “Lois.” He seems disappointed that she’s not there.   The ground shakes and a car flies at him. He catches it and sets it down. Doomy has a little girl and he tosses her mother into a storefront window. Clark superspeeds (with contrails) and grabs the girl from him. Doomy growls. Clark places the girl in a comfy pile of garbage bags and reassures her. The girl looks over his head in fear. Doomy picks up Clark like a rag doll. He punches Clark in the gut three times and the fourth swing is to the face. Clark never gets a punch in. Clark sails through a building and lands on another street. Doomy leaps in the air to grab him again. He goes to swing at Clark again. Clark begins to dummy tackle him as there is white light all around them. Clark leaps/flies and lands at the facility. Immediately there are flames and explosions.   Everyone say goodbye to Doomy. [waves] Total fight time: From the time Clark caught the car and the fires faded. 93 seconds. wow. Pfft.

Sunrise in Metropolis. Jimmy, Chloe and Davis are in a place we have never seen before. Huge windows as if it is a penthouse or loft and they are ornate. Huge plate glass designs. Jimmy tells Chloe Davis is going to be alright. She thanks him and asks him what this place is. Clark said it would be safe. It’s her wedding present. “I saw us here, y’know.” Jimmy is sooo damn sweet. Chloe doesn’t deserve him. “Taking something that the rest of the world had forgotten about and making it ours.” Chloe is in awe that they can see all of Metropolis from there. From anywhere in the city, someone could spot that place. “I thought that no matter where you were, you could look up and you could see our home. You could see me watching over you.”   This sounds remarkably about like what Clark said to Lois earlier. For some reason the mythos music is playing as if it were Clark and Lois in the scene. “I don’t know how you do it. You always seem to come through. You’re always there doing the right thing. Saying the right words.” Chloe wants to tell him everything and he tells her he knows about Clark’s secret. “I saw him. I saw what he can do and who he is.” He tells Chloe he can see what she sacrificed for Clark, for everyone. This sounds like some kind of tribute speech for Chloe.   She admits the only reason she went with Davis was to protect Clark. Jimmy says it makes sense now. (whatever) “But the way that I see it, you are as much a hero as he has ever been. What you’ve gone through. What you’ve risked.” Chloe says she’s lost so much. Yep definitely a tribute speech. “The only thing I really miss is you.” Jimmy says she has found him again. They kiss and reconcile. “I’m sorry I left you, Jimmy, but I never left you.” They kiss again. We hear a squish. Jimmy is bleeding from his mouth and he’s been stabbed in the back with a pipe. Davis pulls the pipe out as Jimmy falls to the floor.

Davis confronts Chloe. He’s crying. “So, um, this whole time that you were with me, it was for Clark?” She tells him to put the weapon down. He tells her he loved her and that she was the only one who ever loved him. The Purgatory choir is in the background. “Why?!” Chloe tells him she thought she loved him. “But really what I wanted to do was save you.” He gets pissed off telling her there is nothing left to save. He lunges the pipe towards her. Jimmy grabs him and the pipe and shoves Davis down. The pipe goes through Davis’s heart. Jimmy collapses into Chloe’s arms on the floor, looking somewhat like the iconic Doomsday scene from the comics. Yea, for Jimmy and Chloe. She tells him he’s going to be okay. She’s crying. Jimmy tells her he’s sorry and, “I love you.” He smiles at her and then his eyes go blank. The camera pans away as the music soars. Two men have died for Chloe. Yep, the magic vag scores again . . . and again.   Everyone say goodbye to Davis.   He got the Blahna treatment. All her boyfriends went nuts at the end, too. Poor Jason. Well at least he has a better gig fighting demons.

Yes this is from Stiletto. The last time we will see the DP3 saving each other. Sad, very sad. I blame Chloe!

More importantly, every one say goodbye to Jimmy. A moment of silence is in order. This was not a twist. It was devastation. Goodbye, Jimmy, you will be missed.

Negative of a picture of Chloe and Jimmy. A crying Chloe puts it along with others on top of a coffin. We see Dinah just behind her. Bart is there, too. A group of people are at the graveside. “Henry James Olson,” says the priest. Okay, comic fans know that Jimmy’s true name is James Bartholomew Olsen. Not only did PS kill him but now he’s not who we all thought he was. This is NOT entertaining. This is a major trust breech.   The only other clue I can think of that Jimmy didn’t have the same background as the comics – was COMMITTED when he said his mother left and his alcoholic, mechanic father ‘raised’ him. Jimmy in the comics, an only child, was always raised by his mother. But he was in a relationship with the biggest non-mythos character of them all – so I didn’t think much of it. That and Jimmy was older so he could have a relationship with Ms. Non-Mythos.

Chloe is crying. Dinah looks at Ollie’s sunglassed face as a tear falls down his cheek. Perhaps foreshadowing at their future relationship. They got married last year in the comics. A man places a hand on the coffin as a boy looks up with him. The freckled boy is wearing a bowtie. They begin to leave. The boy turns and looks at the coffin. Chloe goes to him. He’s apparently Jimmy’s little brother. Still not mythos.    She hangs Jimmy’s camera around his neck and tells him he’ll probably follow in his brother’s footsteps. Just don’t date any Smallville girls, kid. The man and the boy walk away.

Dinah starts to escort her out. Chloe doesn’t act as if she’s there. Chloe starts to look around like there’s something more important than her grief. Bart follows them away.

We see a lone figure standing away from the graves. It’s Clark watching Ollie still by the graveside. Ollie walks away despondent. Clark looks at the coffin as the camera pans down.

Clark enters the wedding present wearing the same clothes that he had on at the cemetery. There’s a huge blood stain still on the floor. Clark is walking in bright light. His tall shadow spreads across the floor. He stares at the stain in somber puzzlement. Chloe comes running thrilled that he is there. He turns as if he didn’t hear her. “Clark! You’re here! You’re alive!” She grabs him in a desperate hug as he looks uncomfortable.   He has tears in his eyes. She wants to know how he survived the geothermal explosion. He pulls her away from him. “I guess before Dinah pressed the button. I don’t know. I got out before the blast, but not fast enough to save anyone else.” Chloe nods.

Okay, Tom just delivers this so well. “Chloe, I’ve searched everywhere. . . “ He gulps and tears start to well in his eyes. He gulps again. “There’s no sign of Lois.” Chloe again nods with tears. Clark’s face is pained. It reminds me of when he went to Lana and he used the same voice when he told her “Lois is in trouble.” Season 6 PROTOTYPE.   Chloe tells him that she saw someone put Lois’s picture on a missing person’s board. Uhhh, shouldn’t that have been her? “And I keep thinking that maybe I haven’t . . .” Clark finishes her selfish line for her. “Lost everyone.”

Clark walks away from her as if he is beginning to realize Chloe’s true nature. “You were there today, Clark. Weren’t you?” He still can’t face her. “I really needed you. Why didn’t you come to me?” [puke bucket] Selfish cow. “I’m the reason Jimmy’s dead and Oliver was right,” says a mournful Clark. “I put humanity on a pedestal. It wasn’t a Kryptonian beast that killed Jimmy. It was a human.” Chloe quite sanctimoniously tells Clark she was standing right there and she knows full well who killed Jimmy. (Millions scream – You did, bitch!)

Clark looks around. “This place, Chloe. Just get rid of it. Just walk away and don’t look back.” She tells Clark he doesn’t get it. Jimmy is there and is watching over her. “He knew me so well. He knew this place would be perfect. Jimmy wanted me to know that no matter where I was in this city that I could look up here and see this beacon.   The Watchtower.” Dinah, Oliver and Bart have all disappeared. She thinks it’s time they brought them home. Clark looks at her as if she’s nuts. “Home? I don’t have a home.” Remember in ODYSSEY the first episode of the season. Clark just wanted to go home. He told Lois at the DP that he was going to be a little closer to home – meaning his desk next to hers. Lois was his home – always has been, always will be. It’s a foundation stone of the Superman story.

Chloe doesn’t like the sound of that statement. “I’ve always tried to forget I was an alien . . . or a creature. I’ve always tried to pretend I was human. I was raised to believe that it was my Kryptonian part that was dangerous, Chloe, but I was wrong.” He stands with one half of his face in the sunlight. “It’s my human side. It’s the side that gets attached. The side that makes decisions based on emotions. That’s my enemy. And Davis proved that to me.” So Chloe screams at him that because of some psychopath (she didn’t think that before) that he’s going to cut the rest of them out of his life. Meaning her since she’s the only one left. She tells him human emotion is what made him the hero he is today. “They’re what’s stopping me from being the hero I could be. It’s what the world needs now.” She tearfully asks him what he’s saying.

“Clark Kent is dead.”

“Goodbye Chloe.” He turns and takes a slow walk to the door into a bright light and he disappears (dissipates) with a whooshing sound. Chloe holds her stomach and grieves.

Luthor mansion. Tess is scurrying down it’s many hallways as a bright light comes through her windows. There are voices. Through an open window she sees the orb. A beam hits the ground as fires erupt from the earth. “Zod,” says a voice. A naked guy holds the orb in his hand as the orb symbol is on his back. “Zod!” We see the Zod symbol in flames on the lawn. “Zod!” the end.

Ratings: 0 for killing Jimmy and for letting us get attached to him for 3 years. 0 for taking Lois out of the equation at midpoint. 0 for the 93 second Doomsday fight. 0 for keeping that selfish bitch non-mythos character, Chloe, who’s basically turned into Lana. The Doomsday costume was not lit properly. Don’t know how that could have been better, but it should have been. Looked like a guy in a plastic gorilla suit. If it wasn’t for Tom Welling and Erica Durance magnificently portraying that phone scene, I would never know that Clark even liked Lois. No Clark and Lois kiss this year. That’s a minus points offense. I give it a 1.75, just because I feel cheated. Through spoilers, Clark and Lois fans were told that we would forgive all (meaning the Arc of Suck). Didn’t happen. Or are we just too damn impatient? But if PS had to do what they had to do for a new future. 2.5 – still poorly executed.

Some interesting things. Clark’s Eradicator attitude (I don’t think he is the Eradicator) and then he disappears into thin air. The only one left in the Smallville universe is Chloe who has been deemed a hero even though she has committed crimes and is morally ambiguous. No wonder Clark thought humanity let him down. It did. Those Smallville girls were a waste of space. Lois goes somewhere in time to be seen no more.

After the initial shock – and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Being true Superman fans – we look for the hope. Even though we feel somewhat betrayed and confused at the actions of the producers/writers, we try to sift through the clues and come up with something to hang on to. Much as the comic readers in the 90’s who experienced the Death of Superman.

We’ve been told that Souders and Peterson are going for the mythos. That won’t be easy to do if they have the giant Non-Mythos girl standing in the middle of their series. And now she’s been deemed a hero – as much as Clark. Hmmm where have we heard that before? Oh yea, the Arc of Suck. Blahna’s send off where she is a super being that can kill Clark.   Is that safe to have around?

We’ve also been told that Clark Kent and Lois Lane are safe. But in the finale we were told that Clark Kent is dead – and he went poof as did Lois.

1938 – Action Comics #1 – the introduction of Clark Kent/Lois Lane/Superman. Where it all began. Comics are great. You have ages of comics. Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Pre-Crisis, Crisis, Post-Crisis, Modern Age, Reboots, more crises, retcons, elseworlds and alternate universes.   Some people consider Smallville an alternate universe and this finale more or less proved their point.

Think about it. Tom Welling just signed a two year contract. Smallville is Clark Kent’s nickname that Lois calls him. (Just as Bones is Booth’s nickname for Temperance Brennan.) Some of us think it’s going to be a new day come 9.01 on Smallville.
